History Is Made — POINTER 01 Takes Flight

London Oxford Airport, 1 July — Oxford Airline Training (OAT) has taken to the skies under its own ICAO callsign for the very first time, marking a proud milestone for the growing flight school at its home base, London Oxford Airport.
The launch comes just a week after the team celebrated its first anniversary as a UK CAA Approved Training Organisation (ATO), and shortly after welcoming its first trainee onto the EXPEDITE Airline Career Programme.
Today the team was, in their own words, "effervescent with excitement" to finally launch their new callsign — POINTER — into the air. It is an especially important punctuation point for OAT, which now has its own unique, identifiable name on the R/T airwaves. Fittingly, it was the school's gorgeous Super Decathlon that carried the first callsigned flight: POINTER 01.
Why POINTER?
There are two reasons behind the name. The first is professional: as pilots, the OAT team frequently use pointers in the cockpit to guide them accurately and safely in the right direction — and at OAT they strive to do exactly that for their customers, in an impartial way.
The second is personal: a love of the pointer dog, with its endearing characteristics of boundless energy, enthusiasm, and a way of thriving on a task with gentle friendliness and loyalty. OAT believes these same positive attributes characterise the values the team holds dear.
